#97: Tropical Heat Speeds Up Evolution | Evolution... →
In case it isn’t obvious, tropical regions have much higher diversity of life than cooler climates. One scientist believes this is because in warm climates, the metabolism of animals is faster, causing a much higher rate of mutation, and leading to faster evolution. Although this is still only a hypothesis, it’s sort of so brilliant it’s got to be right, no?

German company sells 'liquid wood' →
A new German company has created a moldable plastic alternative from lignin, a byproduct of paper production. This means that you could replace a large portion of plastic products, made from oil, with this synthetic made from wood pulp. This process right now could be a great way of recycling paper byproduct while cutting carbon emissions and oil use. In the future, however, this can mean yet...

Play Stick War Game on Stickpage.com →
This was that tight game I was playing at Ben’s. It’s a nice simple flash battle game. Get to both play “strategically” by producing units and sort of one on one fighting. So pretty cool.

Video: Simulation Renders Entire Known Universe |... →
Includes a beautiful video. This is really an amazing achievement. It is a simulation including all cosmic objects in the universe that we are aware of. And even though the sheer number of data must be staggering, If you watch this movie you will notice that we have only looked in a limited number of directions from the earth, and even then our knowledge of the known universe at a great distance...

A song of my people. This is actually based on a very simple folk song about a girl picking berries. But what’s the point of history if you can’t pretend that old stuff is more important than it was when it was created?

Volcanoes Release Carbon Dioxide - Global Warming... →
For along time I believed wholeheartedly in human-caused global warming. Then my father brought a bit of skepticism in my mind. You see, there are tons of studies that say how much greenhouse gas humans produce, but theres never comparison with the natural rate, which makes this information virtually useless. This brought a lot of doubt into  my mind. However, after discovering this study, it...

Waterworld planet is more Earth-like than any... →
A planet only about 3 times as large as earth, darkened by a thick atmosphere, and probably entirely covered in liquid water has been discovered. About 400 exoplanets have been found over the past 20 years. At this rate, we may set off a colonization mission in our lifetimes. What do ya’ll think?

Tool Use Found in Octopuses | Wired Science |... →
Octopuses were observed collecting coconut shells, carrying them, and using them for shelter when necessary. The fact that they used the coconut’s for a future use suggests high cognitive abilities and tool use. There is a movie recording this behavior as well. I think it would be kinda tight if we started breeding octopuses to make the suitable pets. They’d be kinda hard to enjoy what...
