Ok I had to reblog this because I think this is total bullshit. You know what? If you’ve been doing the same thing for years and it isn’t getting anywhere, maybe it’s time to try something different. In the words of Einstein, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” The fact is, chances are there is no giant mound of diamonds at the end of the trip, and there is nothing wrong with compromising when it becomes obvious that it’s not working out. This image pretty much captures the essence of the American Dream that if we work in a mindless, dirty job for just long enough, we’ll strike it rich. That’s never been true and it never will be true. More importantly, every day that you keep chipping away at the dirt fruitlessly is a day wasted; another grain of sand falling through the hourglass. Now that’s not to say that one shouldn’t have long term goals and aspirations, just make sure that you have a fucking good reason not giving up when you don’t see results. If you’re sure you have a good idea by all means keep working at. If you’re doing something that makes you happy regardless of the success, go ahead and keep going. But if the only way you’ll achieve what you want is by something totally unexpected happening, maybe you shouldn’t expect to achieve it, and find a better way to spend your time.
